Job Description:

The role is responsible for managing the SAS Occupational Safety department and personnel to develop and implement specific safety programs that meet or exceed local, state and federal OSHA regulations, and Raytheon Corporate occupational safety practices, standards and guidelines.

Responsibilities:

·        Responsible for planning/coordination, administration and management of all occupational safety programs and support to achieve SAS safety goals and objectives for department and staff.

·        Establish processes to recognize, evaluate, and control hazardous workplace conditions and environmental factors or stresses related to the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers

·        Ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local and company occupational safety and health standards and provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained

·        Remain current on new trends and techniques for enhancing workplace safety through research

·        Develop and improve safety policies and procedures and create and conduct safety training and orientation programs on site policies

·        Compile track and trend extensive injury/illness data for site including investigation and root cause analysis of incidents and drive corrective actions to closure

·        Develop and maintain appropriate site safety metrics for reporting and action

·        Support continuous reduction in work related accidents and at-risk behaviors and conditions

·        Establish best practices for compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies

·        Prepare weekly and monthly summary of safety programs and issues for weekly staff meetings and monthly Operations reviews

·        Audit and evaluate current policies, procedures, and documentation as well as programs and conditions for compliance with government laws and regulations

·        Establish and maintain proactive and positive working relationship with regulatory agencies. 

 

Required Skills: 

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an occupational safety practice in an industrial environment with a bachelors degree or eight (8) years of experience with a masters degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a safety and health role.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with OSHA regulations
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
  • Certified Ergonomist preferred
  • Masters of Science degree in occupational safety, core sciences, related engineering field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US regulatory requirements and occupational safety.
  • Working knowledge of California OSHA regulation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and direction and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Must possess excellent group dynamic, interpersonal and negotiating skills and have the ability to manage large networks of people.
  • Ability to develop and implement complex strategies in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and succeed in a functional position, lead or participate on team activities.
  • Ability to understand and apply solutions involving engineering controls, personal protective equipment and appropriate control technologies required.
  • Ability to persevere in a changing safety culture is a must.
  • Ability to develop direct staff and consultants.

Required Education (including Major):

  • Bachelors of Science degree in occupational safety, core sciences, related engineering field
