OSHA Issues Enforcement Directive on Personal Protective Equipment for General Industry

Instructions for determining employer compliance with OSHA personal protective equipment (PPE) standards and when to cite them for non-compliance were issued to OSHA enforcement personnel February 10. The directive, Enforcement Guidance for Personal Protective Equipment in General Industry, clarifies the types of PPE employers must provide at no cost to workers and under what circumstances employers are required to pay for PPE. This directive replaces Inspection Guidelines for 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I, the revised Personal Protective Equipment Standards for General Industry, issued in June 1995.
