Position Title: Director of Environmental and External Affairs - Region Americas (located at the Cincinnati headquarters)
Reports to VP of Operations for the Americas Region
Field Environmental Managers in the broad region report to this position

- Provide technical and regulatory leadership to ensure that the company's facilities in North and South America meet or exceed regulatory and business-driven environmental performance standards.
- Support External Affairs and ensure that the company is well positioned with respect to its standing with stakeholders.
Environmental Responsibilities
- Create and Implement an effective EMS System for the region to accomplish the following:
a. To systematically identify, rank, isolate, and reduce environmental and regulatory risk
b. To provide resources to fully support, local environmental and regulatory initiatives at local plants, quarries, and other facilitiess
c. To support the Sales and Marketing initiatives where environmental positioning provides competitive advantage
- Identify solutions for specific Environmental and Regulatory compliance concerns and address them in ways that are economically and technically viable and that may provide strategic advantage
- Collaborate with corporate staff, plant managers, plant environmental managers, engineering staff, sales, marketing and product development to assure effective review and integration of environmental/regulatory and sustainability considerations
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve environmental and regulatory compliance to advance the company competitive advantage. Anticipate and be forward looking for opportunities for improvement and competitive advantage.

Lead environmental and regulatory compliance team

Promote communication between facilities to maximize outcomes and promote learning

Represent region in global best practice meetings and group Sustainability Meetings

Produce an annual state of the Region Environmental and regulatory report and deliver findings to senior management

Assist local plant personnel as needed in preparing timely responses to all inquiries from governmental bodies.
- Develop and maintain positive external image for company as viewed by regulatory authorities
- Provide vision and leadership with respect to strengthening company standing with stakeholders
- Develop minimum External Affairs standards and protocols to be implement at all facilities in the region and ensure requirements are satisfied

Represent company at trade associations as needed

Assist in review of press releases and media inquiries related to Environmental issues

Participate in negotiations with regulatory officials to support plant environmental initiatives

Support local external affairs to ensure consistency across region
- 15 plus years of successful work experience in environmental and regulatory compliance and leadership
- BS (MS preferred) in natural, physical or environmental sciences
- Must be excellent communicator, listener and sensitive to a multi-cultural environment and interact with plants in many different countries
- Solid technical skills and working knowledge of ISO 14001 (EMS), ISO 9000 and ISO 19001 (a plus)
- Proven ability to proactively anticipate regulatory changes and potential impacts
- Demonstrated successful leadership and management of teams of technical specialists
- Track record of successfully promoting organizational change initiatives
- Ability to creatively approach challenges and work both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
- Travel up to 50% required
- Superior written and verbal skills
- Ability to speak Spanish and or Portuguese is preferred
- Must be willing to relocate to Cincinnati
