The ORC Global Safety and Health Forum (GSHF) acts as a focal point for the collection and dissemination of information about international safety, health, and environmental regulatory and business trends.
OSHA has issued its first ever directive on Enforcement Procedures for Investigating or Inspecting Incidents of Workplace Violence (attached below). The directive, CPL 02-01-052 with an effective date of September 8, 2011, establishes uniform procedures for OSHA field staff for responding to incidents and complaints of workplace violence and conducting inspections in industries considered vulnerable to workplace violence, such as healthcare and social service settings, and late-night retail establishments.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reopened the public comment period May 17 on its controversial proposal to re-establish a column for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) on the OSHA 300 recordkeeping log. According to a notice published in the May 17 Federal Register (see attachment below) these public comments must be submitted by June 16.

This survey asked about the smoking policies in effect at ORC member companies. Twenty-one companies responded to the survey questionnaire with 19 indicating that their companies did have a smoking policy and two indicating that they did not. Only 7 responders indicated that there was a total ban on smoking on company property, the remainder indicated that that smoking was prohibited only in certain areas. One responder said they were planning to initiate a total ban in 2011. Thirteen responders indicated that employees could smoke in their personal cars when parked
