OSHA Extends Comment Period on Recordkeeping and Reporting Revisions Proposal

On September 28, 2011, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced that it was reopening the rulemaking record to extend the comment period on revising the recordkeeping and reporting requirements for work-related injuries and illnesses.

OSHA Proposes Changes to Recordkeeping Requirements — NAICS Update and Reporting Revisions

In the June 22, 2011 Federal Register, OSHA  published a proposal to update Appendix A to Subpart B of its Injury and Illness Recording and Reporting regulations. Appendix A contains a list of industries that are partially exempt from maintaining records of occupational injuries and illnesses, generally due to their relatively low rates of occupational injury and illness.  The current list of industries is based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system.

Deadline Nears for Public Comment on MSD Reporting Rule

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reopened the public comment period May 17 on its controversial proposal to re-establish a column for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) on the OSHA 300 recordkeeping log. According to a notice published in the May 17 Federal Register (see attachment below) these public comments must be submitted by June 16.

OSHA Launches Recordkeeping Expert System

OSHA has developed an expert system for injury and illness recordkeeping.  The system can be accessed through the Department of Labor web site (www.dol.gov) by clicking on the “elaws” heading on the left side of the web page and then clicking on the “New OSHA Recordkeeping Advisor.”
